ANNOUNCES RUGGED I/O FOR MACHINE CONTROL IN MOBILE EQUIPMENT
Toronto, Canada --- June 4, 2002 --- Axiomatic Technologies
Corporation announced today its OEM design capability for rugged I/O machine
controllers utilized by mobile equipment.
A digital electronic I/O module can replace traditional relay logic to drive
on/off solenoid or proportional solenoid circuits including starter motors,
brakes and hydraulic valves. Features of the I/O modules can include valve
drivers, safety interlocks with sequencing, isolated timed power for 12V lamps,
and indicator LED's. The units interface to 9-16V battery power (with other
voltage ranges available). The designs can accommodate the specific number and
type of I/O required by an OEM application.
The unit shown in the photo accepts up to eight I/O and provides seven 12V
outputs of various amperages including 2A, 5A, 7.5A and 20A. Some of the
outputs are always ON with short circuit protection and current limiting
provided. In this design some logic is included in several of the I/O. For
example, an oil temperature sensor input causes the I/O module to respond with
either an active high or low signal depending on the status of the input. If
the oil temperature sensor input is closed, the I/O module provides a 10 second
delay before turning off the output connected to the fuel solenoid and thus
permitting the system to cool. Once the oil temperature sensor input opens
again, the I/O module provides the output to turn on the fuel solenoid.
Small to medium sized machine applications can take advantage of the robust
packaging for protection from the mobile environment, the quick connections via
one connector to reducing messy wiring, and the enhanced diagnostic information
available.
OEM versions and packaging styles are available.

ANNOUNCE A DEAL TO PROVIDE MOBILE CONTROL SOLUTIONS WORLDWIDE
Toronto, Canada and Tampere, Finland --- March 19, 2002 ---
Axiomatic Technologies Corporation, based in Mississauga (Toronto), Canada and
Tampere Multivisions Oy of Tampere, Finland announced today a comprehensive
technology and business integration agreement.
Multivisions brings its systems and software expertise based in Europe to the
agreement and Axiomatic combines low-cost manufacturing and electrohydraulic
controls design capability in North America to provide a full spectrum of
controls expertise to the mobile equipment market worldwide. With the combined
product range from the two operations, more off-the-shelf solutions are readily
available and can be supported with greater depth.
"We are thrilled with both the technological and cultural fit between the
two companies," said Amanda Wilkins, Marketing Manager at Axiomatic.
"For example, on a recent joint project to develop and improve a CANopen
resolver card, the two companies working together were able to cut about 20%
from both the size and cost of the electronics from initial expectations. The
project moved ahead faster achieving a better result than if either company had
undertaken the project alone. This deal will broaden our ability to offer
standard products designed specifically for mobile applications."
"An immediate result of our business integration is the ability to offer
better support to meet the increasing demands of our global customers. In
Finland, particularly, the customers tend to be strong exporters and they can
certainly benefit from support on more than one continent."
"Our plan is to significantly grow the operations in both countries,"
said Tommi Kauppinen, Managing Director of Tampere Multivisions. "Having
innovative technology and a strong understanding of machine control is
obviously very helpful to our customers. However, as the technology evolves and
more applications require rugged controls, expanding our design capability and
manufacturing expertise makes sense. Almost by definition, we are not involved
unless a complex control scenario or innovation is needed. And once the problem
is solved, the customer wants to move to immediate production with technical
support worldwide. Being able to draw upon a large base of proven products and
having access to an ISO9002 registered production facility experienced in the
manufacturing of robust controls is certainly an added advantage to
Multivisions. In return, Axiomatic benefits from increased accessibility in
Europe."
The ability to combine software, electronics, and electro-hydraulic controls
tailored to customer needs is a key strategy as the Axiomatic and Multivisions
group moves forward. The combined entity offers their existing CANopen and
DeviceNET networked control systems, a broad range of electro-hydraulic control
products, rugged switching mode power converters and a well developed
technology base for customized solutions.

TWO-WIRE SERIAL COMMUNICATIONS FOR A
VEHICLE CONTROL SYSTEM IMPROVES RELIABILITY OF SYSTEM CONNECTIONS AS WELL AS
REDUCES CABLING COSTS
Extended Actuator/Sensor Interface (EASI) is a two-wire
serial fieldbus providing low-cost, simple and reliable machine control for
mobile equipment. As a digital alternative to traditional cable harness
parallel wiring, the standard round two-wire cable transmits both power and
data. This reduces material, set-up and maintenance costs on equipment with
long distance cable runs.
The EASI-network control system uses a single master to power the network and
provide accurate control and monitoring of "nodes" (multiple valves,
sensors, motor controllers or other devices on the network). Devices are
connected in parallel and polled in sequence by the main controller. Quick
connections to the hardware simplify set up. Because EASI-network control
systems are application specific, they are very flexible - offering cost and
efficiency advantages to the OEM equipment designer. Once installed, it is
simple matter to extend the bus to add new devices.
An EASI-networked control system is ideal for construction equipment, bucket
trucks, boom and scissor lift platforms, material handling vehicles, wired
crane control and other mobile equipment where the controls are located remote
from the power unit.
Typical mobile equipment functions provided by an EASI-networked control system
include:
Monitoring, diagnostics and maintenance data logging can
also be part of an EASI-networked control system. Interface to CAN bus, RS485
and other communication networks is available. Transmission, brake and engine
control modules can be incorporated. An operator interface terminal is a
feature of some systems with user programmability and configuration.
Application-specific motor controllers are also available including a variable
speed DC motor controller for bi-directional or uni-directional motors.
Applications of the two-wire EASI-network control system include:
Precision fertilizer spreading for agriculture: The EASI-network Liquid
Spreader Control System is state-of-the art in precision agriculture. It is
used to electronically control the flow of liquid manure or other fertilizers.
The user specifies the amount of liquid to be spread and the control system
regulates the flow based on the desired volume per area (i.e. gallons/acre). To
generate an 'as applied' map, the control system can be tied to a commercially
available Global Positioning System (GPS) to pinpoint the tractor's location in
the field. There are two communication protocols used in this system: the
Extended Actuator/Sensor Interface (EASI) developed by Axiomatic; and RS-485.
Meters, sensors and a gate actuator use digital input and output (I/O) to
interface with an EASI Main Control Module. Gate switches, pump sensors and
wheel speed sensors input to the main control module. Hydraulic valves are
controlled by the digital output from the main control module through an EASI
Remote I/O module that interfaces with the EASI-network. This fully integrated
control system comes complete with an operator interface terminal and is
designed for the severe operating environment of agricultural machinery.
Self-propelled vehicle operating in a warehouse environment: The
manufacturer of the mobile equipment chose a 2-wire fieldbus control system to
reduce wiring costs and improve reliability by reducing the amount of control
connections required. The EASI-network control system accepts operator input in
the platform from a joystick assembly (using an Axiomatic control circuit with
a commercially available joystick). The heart of the system is the main
controller with an integrated level controller critical in this application for
operator safety. The main controller provides the control functions for the
vehicle including: power for the platform controls; lift and lower functions;
steering motor control; pothole safety system control; data for an hour-meter;
and remote annunciation to a horn and beeper. The control system can be shut
down by an emergency ESTOP button. The system also drives an Axiomatic
high-current, variable-speed DC motor controller using CAN bus communications.
The design features a highly efficient synchronous rectification design for
reduced heat build-up and operating temperatures in both the controller and the
motor. The motor controller provides a brake control function with a power
saving feature, brake override monitoring, power to the motor and some
auxiliary outputs.

the valve. Mounted directly on the coil with a DIN 43650 connection, the Soft
Shift Driver interfaces to a 9 to 28 VDC power supply via a two meter cable.
Designed for the rugged mobile environment, it holds an IP65 protection rating.
The maximum output current of 2 Amps is user adjustable and ramp on time is
also adjustable over a factory set range. Further details on these products and
other mobile electronics can be found on www.mobileelectronics.net.

AXIOMATIC TECHNOLOGIES CORPORATION INTRODUCE A PROPORTIONAL VALVE DRIVER IN
THEIR MOBILE ELECTRONICS LINE
TORONTO, ON --- January 2000 --- Hydraforce, Inc. and Axiomatic Technologies
Corporation introduce a Proportional Valve Driver, the next controller in their
emerging line of innovative electronic solutions for mobile equipment and
industrial processes. The advanced design utilizes high frequency switching
output (PWM) for accurate control of hydraulic and pneumatic proportional
solenoid valves. The Proportional Valve Driver supplies a valve with current
proportional to an input control such as 0-5VDC, 0-20mA, an external
potentiometer signal or remote joystick. The unit is mounted remote from the
valve; however, coil mount models are also available. Adjustable maximum and
minimum current, independent ramp times, dither frequency and amplitude permit
the user to select the settings that suit their application. The design
incorporates a superimposed dither to reduce friction effects and increase the
linearity of the valve. A system of LED's indicates output power level, input
level and power on/off. The unit is available as a stand-alone PCB board and as
a packaged driver. The packaged driver is enclosed in an IP65 or IP67 rated
metal housing complete with 1.5 or 3 meters of cable. Further details on this
product and other mobile electronics can be found on www.mobileelectronics.net.
